  The owner is a racist and sexist. If you are not Anglo avoid at all cost. I visited Beechworth Antiques on the 26th March. Being a collector of antique telescopes I was delighted to see one in the shop. As a collector and buyer, when you see an item you are interested in the normal thing to do is to inspect the item to make sure it's in satisfactory condition. This shop doesn't have a sign that says DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING (except for the bible at the front of the store) so I carefully picked up the telescope to have a better look at it. The owner quickly rushed over and told me not to touch it, his tone was very rude, and he barked at me and said it doesn't work inside. I am a medical professional, I perform delicate surgeries every day at work, I do not handle anything roughly and I was very shocked at his reaction. I haven't even pick up the telescope and he took it away from my hand. Due to my profession I also collect antique medical equipment, however after the bad experience I've decided not to buy anything from this shop, but my friend wasn't aware of what happened and when she saw the glass hypodermic syringe in the display cabinet she called me over and asked the owner to take it out to have a look. He enthusiastically showed her the syringe and let her touch it but when I said can I have a better look to see how it works (it looks like there's a component missing) he said well you'll just have to buy it and wouldn't let me inspect it properly. Why am I not surprised? My friend is Anglo. How obvious is his racism. There was a vial of cat gut for suturing in the container with the syringe, the owner claimed it's what they used to inject into the patient (wow I think if you inject that into your patient they will have a very bad reaction), when I told my friend it's for suturing he immediately said oh so you are a nurse. What a sexist comment, just because I am a female with medical knowledge doesn't mean I am a nurse, many of us are doctors. This is the worst antique shop I've ever visited in my life, and I've visited hundreds all around the world. The owner is a racist and sexist and have very poor knowledge of the thing he is selling. If you are Asian, especially an Asian female, avoid at all cost. If I can give it no star I would.
